Double-Convex Lenses

Features:
High Precision Dimension Control, Optional Substrate Material, Converges incident light, Lower spherical aberrations than for Plano-Convex lenses, Ideal for Experimenting and Prototyping Applications

Applications:
1:1 imaging and in multi-element system, Magnifiers, Objectives, Condensing systems, Projection Systems, Imaging Systems, Optical Display Systems, Laser Measurement Systems, Beam Expanders, Optical Viewers, Optical Character Readers, etc.

Description:
Double convex (DCX) or Biconvex lenses are symmetrical therefore they have equal radii of curvature on both sides. Biconvex lenses are used as magnifiers, objectives, condensing systems. Since both surfaces contribute to the power of biconvex lenses, they have shorter focal length than PCX lenses of equal diameter and surface radius.

Double Convex Lenses are used in image relay applications, or for imaging objects at close conjugates. Double Convex Lenses have positive focal lengths, along with two convex surfaces with equal radii. Aberrations will increase as the conjugate ratios increase. DCV Lenses are used in a range of industries or applications.

Double-Convex Lenses are most suitable where the object and image are on opposite sides of the lens and the ratio of the image and object (conjugate ratio) distances is between 0.2 to 5mm.

A double-concave lens is compose of two concave surface, has a negative focal length and are best used to diverge a converging beam. Similar to a plano-concave lens, a bi-concave lens can diverge a collimated beam to a virtual focus like a beam expander.
